Syphilis Awareness:
Syphilis cases are increasing across Aotearoa New Zealand, and we are also seeing a rise in congenital syphilis, which is preventable through early detection and treatment. Ideally, syphilis should be detected and treated before pregnancy occurs. Around 50% of syphilis cases are asymptomatic in the early stages. When symptoms do occur, they can vary widely. What is Syphilis?
Measles (MMR) Update:
Those born between 1969-2004 please check if you are fully immunised. If you do not have proof, you can phone the Vaccination Helpline 0800 28 29 26
Age group needs
-
Mid-50s and 60s: People aged in their mid-50s and in their 60s are very unlikely to need a vaccine, but it can be considered if necessary, e.g. travelling to high-risk countries
-
Childhood: Two scheduled MMR doses should be given at 12 months and 15 months of age. Children who have not received two documented doses can be offered catch-up doses, given at least 4 weeks apart.
